Dr. Harold Bays is the Medical Director of the Louisville Metabolic and Atherosclerosis Research Center, Inc. (L-MARC) and Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He has served as a Principal Investigator for over 600 clinical trials. Dr. Bays is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine.
Dr. Bays has authored/co-authored over 300 peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts and book chapters and has authored/co-authored and/or presented hundreds of abstracts at national and international scientific conferences. He has also authored/co-authored scientific consensus statements, position statements, and clinical practice statements.
Dr. Bays originated the term "adiposopathy" (sick fat) which helps define the adverse metabolic consequences of obesity-driven dysfunctional adipose tissue. Dr. Bays is the current President and Chief Science Officer of the Obesity Medicine Association, and Editor-in-Chief of Obesity Pillars® (the official journal of the OMA). Dr. Bays was awarded the Obesity Medicine Clinician of the Year (2016), the Committee Leadership Award (2014), and the Dr. Peter G. Lindner Award (2019).
