The pay range for this position is $252,000 - $287,000. Salary is negotiated annually. Position Description
The Division of General Internal Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego is committed to academic excellence within the faculty, staff, and student body. We are actively recruiting academic physicians for faculty positions in Obesity Medicine at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.
The positions include providing care within a multidisciplinary obesity center, with potential opportunities to also practice general internal medicine in a faculty primary care clinic. The selected candidates will contribute to high-quality clinical care, including the management of patients through lifestyle interventions, anti-obesity pharmacotherapy, and coordination of care for bariatric surgery. In addition, the selected candidates will be responsible for the teaching and training of students, residents, and fellows, and, if applicable, conducting research in their area of expertise.
The appropriate series and appointment will be based on the candidate's background and experience.

Qualifications
- Basic qualifications (required at time of application) Candidates must have an MD, DO, or equivalent degree.
- Candidates must be board certified in Internal Medicine and board certified in Obesity Medicine.
- Candidates must also hold or be eligible for a California medical license, or an equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California.

As a Physician specializing in Obesity Medicine at Weight In Gold, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality care to individuals living with obesity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough evaluations to diagnose clinical obesity, addressing its multifactorial nature with a compassionate, patient-centered approach.
- Treat obesity as a chronic disease with evidence-based, personalized plans integrating medical, nutritional, behavioral, and emotional care.
- Provide high-quality care to 18–24 patients per day, ensuring each receives personalized, compassionate, and evidence-based treatment within a structured and efficient schedule.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to manage obesity-related conditions and comorbidities.
- Conduct in-person consultations at our Watertown or Madison, WI locations.
- Conduct virtual care consultations , leveraging telemedicine tools to connect with patients remotely.
- Educate patients on the science and complexities of obesity, emphasizing a stigma-free and supportive environment.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic health records (EHR), currently using Athena, for all patient interactions.
- Document treatment plans, progress notes, and other relevant information in accordance with practice protocols.
- Develop and contribute content for Weight In Gold Wellness’ social media channels, focusing on obesity education and nutrition.
- Participate in community outreach and educational events to raise awareness and provide guidance on nutrition and obesity care.
Requirements:
- Board Certified in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine Must obtain
- Wisconsin medical license prior to the start date.
- Experience in providing care for patients with obesity and related conditions.
- Strong belief in and commitment to stigma-free obesity care.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt to a dynamic and growing healthcare practice.
Schedule:
- Flexible schedule between 7:45am-5:00pm with minimum of 32 direct patient care hours
- Minimal call responsibilities with initial triage handled by a skilled nursing team
Experience:
Preference will be given to candidates certified in obesity medicine by the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM).

As a primary care physician at knownwell, you will work alongside a team of committed physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, dietitians, and behavioral health clinicians to provide comprehensive medical care, with a specific focus on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of obesity-related conditions as appropriate. This position offers an opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of patients by helping them achieve sustainable weight management – should that also be a goal of the patient’s – and improve their overall health.
Position: Hybrid, on-site and remote.
Location: Needham, MA 02492
Schedule: Monday- Friday with flexible scheduling, 32 patient contact hours minimum.
EMR: Athena
On-Call: Rotation with initial triage performed by nurses.
Requirements:
- You have a medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school.
- You have an unrestricted Massachusetts license or willingness to obtain.
- You are board certified/board eligible in family medicine or internal medicine and pediatrics.
- You have an ABOM board certification or willingness to obtain. Fellowship preferred.
- You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities:
- Practice exceptional medicine within knownwell
- Sees adults for primary care, often with a focus on metabolic health. Sees pediatric patients only for metabolic health.
- Embodies the knownwell mission and values of patient inclusivity in how you deliver care.
- Coordinates with the broader care team to ensure the patient has the support they need .
- Documents as necessary to ensure accurate billing.
- Communicates with patients in a timely matter through our portal for questions, including with the assistance of a nurse practitioner.
- Provides feedback on technology.
- Ensure patients feel known well
- Ensure panel is open to any individual, regardless of their current health status and comorbidities.
- Listen to the aspirations of the patient and ensure care is tailored to the patient’s unique health journey.
- Provide an environment in which patients feel comfortable and free from judgment.
- Offer exceptional encouragement as patients reach their goals.
- Coordinate across the collaborative care team
- Escalate any clinical concerns to Chief Medical Officer.
- Raise ideas and feedback about technology to leadership team.
- Provide clinical guidance to medical assistants if necessary.
- Collaborate with NPs/PAs to ensure follow-up is as appropriate.
- Stay current with licensure and appropriate re-certifications.
