Using the Obesity Medicine Association’s four pillars of clinical obesity treatment, learn how to develop obesity treatment plans for patients with complex diseases, conditions and lifestyle factors. This case-based course is intended to build upon the core concepts of obesity medicine and help you gain the skills to implement more advanced techniques in your practice. You’ll use real-life cases to practice building individualized treatment plans from start to finish.

  • Manage obesity in four common patient case scenarios: Type 1 Diabetes, Adolescents, Bipolar Disorder, and Patients with Limited Resources
  • Explore the impact of obesity treatment on each of these associated patient scenarios
  • Recognize key components in the evaluation including medical history, physical exam, and laboratory results
  • Identify and adjust concurrent medications to support weight management
  • Prioritize treatment approach for adiposity-related diseases, conditions or lifestyle factors based on your findings during the initial evaluation
  • Examine the root causes of each associated disease to effectively treat both the obesity-related disease and the obesity
  • Use effective communication and collaboration approaches with other providers on the patient’s healthcare team

The Fall Obesity Summit will expand your skills used to treat patients with obesity. Session content will explore obesity evaluation and treatment in each of the 4 pillar – pharmacotherapy, nutrition, physical activity, and behavioral modification. The program will include late breaking research on phenotypic-guided lifestyle interventions, emerging pharmacotherapy for obesity treatment, utilizing motivational interviewing, special populations, and much, much more.

Sessions during this track will focus on:

  • Clinical applications for anti-obesity medications
  • Treating obesity in special populations and how to appropriately modify your care
  • Physiologic implications of nutrition interventions and creating personalized meal plans
  • Exploring the benefits and limitations of physical activity in obesity treatment

Attend the Pediatric Track to expand upon your knowledge in treating children, adolescents and young adults with obesity.

The Pediatric, Adolescent and Young Adult Track is designed to provide clinicians with updated information regarding utilizing advanced tools of weight management, such as anti-obesity medications and metabolic-bariatric surgery, for children, adolescents and young adults with obesity. Clinicians will walk away with a better understanding of how to treat obesity in special pediatric populations, including those with genetic or syndromic obesity, intellectual disabilities, and behavioral issues such as autism spectrum disorder. Clinicians will also learn how to address the unique obesity-related medical and behavioral issues of adolescents transitioning into young adulthood and gender diverse youth.
