The NP and PA Certificate of Advanced Education in Obesity Medicine offers nurse practitioners and physician assistants an opportunity to earn a certificate in obesity medicine and demonstrate to their patients an extensive knowledge of evidence-based obesity treatment approaches and an ongoing commitment to their health. This certificate is offered exclusively to NPs and PAs, who are currently not able to sit for the American Board of Obesity Medicine exam.
Applying for the Certificate
Candidates may complete an application after fulfilling the certificate requirements. Payment of a one-time, non-refundable fee is due at the time of application. Submitting an application does not guarantee issuance of a certificate.
Please allow up to four weeks for your application to be processed.
Applicants must have an active, unrestricted NP or PA license and must fulfill all of the following education requirements.
- Candidates must earn a minimum of 60 CE credits through OMA within a period of 36 months.
- A minimum of 30 CE credits must be earned through attendance and participation at live events.
- As part of the 60 CE credits, candidates must complete OMA’s Review Course for the ABOM Exam, either at the live conference or online.
Membership in the Obesity Medicine Association (OMA) is not required but is strongly encouraged. Membership allows NPs and PAs to stay up to date on new and emerging treatments. It also offers a community to NPs and PAs to network, connect, and collaborate with other NPs and PAs who share an interest in obesity medicine.
After Earning the Certificate
Approved candidates will receive a printed certificate to display in their office. The certificate recognizes the obesity-focused education obtained by NPs and PAs practicing obesity medicine.
Candidates will not be awarded a designation/credential for completing the certificate, but approved candidates may say that they have earned a Certificate of Advanced Education in Obesity Medicine.
