New Program Offers Continuing Education, Resources and More

The American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) and the Obesity Medicine Association (OMA) are pleased to offer select continuing education (CE) activities and resources for healthcare providers working in obesity management. Members of OMA and the AANP Obesity Community collaborated to create exciting, informative and necessary educational resources in the Obesity Management Foundations for the Primary Care Clinician. This program provides advanced practice clinicians online access to a convenient, comprehensive, foundational obesity management program.

Consisting of nine sessions, each dealing with different topics of obesity treatment and management, this program is supported by AANP and OMA. The program enables clinicians to increase their understanding of obesity as a chronic disease, gain a blueprint for the evaluation of obesity management and develop treatment modalities and interventions for patients with the disease of obesity. This program has been approved for a maximum of 9.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit and 9.26 contact hours of CE by the Association of Nurse Practitioners.

Presented by AANP and OMA experts in the field, these CME/CE activities offer learners the essential knowledge necessary for obesity management. By completing this Obesity Foundations Program, clinicians can increase their understanding and foundational education on evidence-based methods for assessing, diagnosing and managing obesity within a clinical environment. The material suits physicians, nurse practitioners, physician associates, trainee clinicians and other health care professionals who treat patients with the disease of obesity.

Upon completing all nine activities, participants will receive the Obesity Management Foundations for the Primary Care Clinician Certificate. The certificate of academic achievement demonstrates to employers, workers and peers their commitment as a clinician in obesity care. Participants who have completed the program and received their certificate will also be interested in an Obesity Across the Lifespan companion program to be released later this year.
