Wendy Scinta, MD, MS, FOMA, who is the president of the Obesity Medicine Association and an obesity medicine physician in Fayetteville, N.Y., contributed to the latest installment in a patient and physician perspective series in the medical journal, Advances in Therapy. In the article, both Dr. Scinta and Nicole Smith, the mother of one of Dr. Scinta’s patients, discuss insulin resistance, hunger, and obesity in children.
After years of her son never feeling full after eating, Nicole set up a consultation with Dr. Scinta for her son, Gregory. Dr. Scinta was the first doctor to discuss the possibility of insulin resistance with Gregory and Nicole. In the article, Nicole describes her and Gregory’s experience with Dr. Scinta, and Dr. Scinta provides her perspective on how insulin resistance and obesity in children affect appetite and hunger. She goes on to explain Gregory’s treatment regimen and the outcomes of his treatment so far.
